Yesterday I had the privilege of taking part in the memorial service for Maury Smith. Maury’s son, Nate and his wife Pam have been a major part of the Southside Bible Church family since its very first Sunday. They have faithfully served time and time again in the church.

As Kathleen and I continue to make plans to plant the new church in Estero Florida, the experience of yesterday, reminded me once again of the huge importance of Small Groups.  Nate and Pam Smith have been part of an authentic small group.  For many months before and then at the time of this loss, it was their small group that was there for them in so many heartfelt and practical ways.  And, it will be their small group that will be there for them in the weeks and months to come.

The funeral director told me that approximately 175 people attended the memorial service.  They were there to support and comfort the Smith family. Praise the Lord !    But long after yesterday, there will be 12 people ( the small group)  who will still be there.

Our vision is that Gulf Coast Bible Church will be another new church of small groups living out the biblical mandate of community
